Another common problem in Excel is that a row is not high enough to display all of the text or information
stored in a cell. There are several different methods you can use to adjust the row height.
Autofit Selection:
To automatically widen the row to display all of the information:
- Select the row you want to adjust.
- Click on the FORMAT menu item and click on the ROW item.
- Click on Auto Fit Selection in the ROW drop down box.
Dragging the Row Height:
You can also adjust row height by placing your mouse cursor on the bottom edge
of its number indicator. The mouse cursor will become a double-arrow when you have placed
it correctly. Hold the mouse button down and drag the row height to the height you want.
Instead of dragging the row height, you can simply select the row and double-click
on the double-arrow.
Entering a Row Height Value:
- Right click with your mouse to select the row you want to adjust. A drop-down menu
will appear.
- Click on the column width choice. Enter the column width you want in the
dialog box that appears.
Exercise:
- Open or switch to workbook2.xls if it is not already active.
- Enter a description of your house in cell A1.
- Use the different methods of adjusting the row height so the information is correctly displayed.
Use undo and redo to try them all out.
- Save your workbook.
