Entering Text Using the Formula Bar
First, open a new blank workbook in Excel.
- Click on cell A1 so it is highlighted. You should see A1 in the Formula Bar address
indicator box when it is selected.
- Then click your mouse in the Formula Box. A blinking vertical line will appear to
indicate that you can type in this box.
- Type your name in the formula box.
- Press the enter key. Your name will appear in cell A1.
Exercise:
- Open workbook1.xls
- Select cell A1.
- Type your name in the formula box.
- Save your workbook.
Entering Text Directly Into a Cell
- Double-click on cell A1. A blinking vertical line will appear in the cell
indicate that you can type in the cell.
- Then type your name directly in the cell and press enter. Your name will
then appear in cell A1.
- Click on cell A1 so it is highlighted. Notice that the text now appears in the
cell and in the formula box.
Exercise:
- Open or switch to workbook2.xls
- Double-click on cell A1.
- Type your name directly in the cell.
- Save your workbook.
